One
of these options may be suitable for one or the other. However,
each option has its drawbacks.
Staying in present home is
not only unnecessarily expensive, it also turns into lonely, couch
potato lifestyle. Also, it does not permit downsizing desired by
so many.
Possibility of moving in with
one’s children is a very attractive and rewarding option.
In many ways it is beneficial to all three generations. However,
winds of change have affected many of us. Many in the younger generation
may not want or be able to keep their elders or many elders may
not want to give up their freedom. Even if the children welcome
them many may not want to move to the town where their children
reside because that town may not offer activities desired by seniors.
Migrating to India is chosen
by few. However, many find the adjustment to Indian conditions difficult.
They find their old contacts either gone or having different economic
status or busy with their own social circle. Many miss their children
or grand children in USA after relocating to India and find traveling
back and forth too expensive or physically and emotionally too taxing.
Relocating and buying a home
or a condominium in a warm weather state like Florida, California,
Texas or Arizona is an option considered by few. Here again, they
find it too difficult to make new friends and do not find it any
more desirable than staying in their present home.
Currently, we find many of
our elders who are unable to consider any of the options listed
above viable for their situation end up in American retirement communities
where two major problems they face are food and companionship.
Considering all of the above,
Gokul Gaun is visualized as an uniqe concept to provide one more
option for seniors to consider. It is a Houston, Texas, USA based
warm climate retirement community with many attractive and desirable
features.
Gokul Gaun will be organized
as a new independent legal entity. It will be a not-for-profit corporation
to be organized under the laws of State of Texas, USA. It will have
its own Articles of Incorporation, By-laws, Board of Directors,
Officers and Operating Policies. Once organized it will secure 501
(c) (3) status under Internal Revenue Code.
It is proposed that GOKUL GAUN
be developed on a vacant site adjacent to Texas Nathdwara - A Pushtimargiya
Vaishnav Temple Complex. This complex was developed in year 2005
at an approximate cost of eight million US Dollars. Development
of Gokul Gaun on this site will enable maximum utilization of existing
physical assets and will minimize capital requirement. In many ways,
it will also help achieve the goals of ideal retirement living.
